Description of evidence and how it demonstrates the standard(s):

In one of my classes, I designed a math lesson for sixth grade.  This is a Prezi I created for the lesson to teach how to find the areas of shapes.

Implication for Future Teaching:

My peers and I were each asked to create a podcast for a math lesson for the purpose of using it in our future classrooms.  We showed our podcasts to the class.  I chose to do my lesson for sixth grade on finding the areas of shapes.  The lesson introduced the concept of area and the vocabulary terms that correspond to it.  I demonstrated how to find the area of a square, triangle, and trapezoid.  After instructing how to find the area of each shape, I included a practice problem.  Each problem was a word problem that related to real world experiences.  Shapes are everywhere, and it is important for students to be able to see that early on.  As a future teacher, I desire to create learning experiences that promote critical thinking and creativity.  Applying the content to solve authentic and real world problems is essential for effective teaching and for the success and growth of the students.
