Description of evidence and how it demonstrates the standard(s):

In one of my classes at Franciscan University, I created a semester-long interdisciplinary team curriculum unit with my peers.  It is a student-centered thematic unit of two semesters for sixth grade students and it focuses on Science, Social Studies, Math, and Language Arts.  The unit is cross-curricular for the purpose of collaborating between content areas.

Implication for Future Teaching:

My three peers and I worked a great deal on this together.  This interdisciplinary team unit taught me how to collaborate with others and work as a team.  Good and clear communication is a key component when working with others, as well.  Also, it is important to know how to take on leadership roles and to effectively delegate.  Through learning and growing in these skills, my peers and I were able to put our ideas together to create this cross-curricular unit that covers all of our content areas for the sixth grade.

These skills are something that I have found to be valuable and necessary in a school setting.  I hope to continue to foster them and to apply them as a future educator.  This experience has provided me the opportunity to collaborate with others for the purpose and good of the students.  Creating this cross-curriculum has expanded my knowledge on other content areas, as well.  Effective leadership and collaboration are essential for the success of everyone in the school setting, and I intend to implicate them in my future teaching.
